The American Salers Junior Association (ASJA) had a very busy weekend, November 19th-21st. This year the ASJA planning weekend for the 2017 Junior National was held in conjunction with Stock Show University’s Grad program and the Southern Belle Show Heifer Sale.
This year the ASJA Board of Directors traveled all the way to Corinth Mississippi to start planning the 2017 Junior National which will be held June 26th– 30th. Topics discussed were the 2017 Jr. National schedule, programs to both welcome and mentor new members in the Salers breed, contests (photography, skill-a-thon, speech, team fitting, team sales, no-fit showmanship, livestock judging, taste of states, celebrity showdown and the Paul Trueblood showmanship showdown), online only registration and sponsorships. As a board we feel that this years coming Jr. National is going to be the best one yet. If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact a board member anytime.
Stock Show University is a division of Sullivan Supply that has a Graduate program where participants are able to learn one on one with some of the best in the industry. This particular program was a two-day, hands-on arrangement with curriculum over daily hair care, clipping, fitting, appetite management on the road and showmanship. This event was free compliments of Sullivan Supply, a huge sponsor to this years Jr. National.
The Southern Belle Show Heifer Sale was created to help boost Salers cattle and jr member numbers in the state of Mississippi after a small concern that numbers were too low. As part of a breed that continues to grow, we are happy to announce that after sale purchases we now have ten new Jr. members, all of which plan on returning for the Jr. National. The sale grossed $36,400 on 15 lots (13 of those being Salers and Optimizers) for an average of $2,500. The high selling heifer was lot 13B from Goering Show Cattle at $5,000. We want to personally thank all of the cosigners who brought cattle and who continue to support the ASJA and all of its members.
We hope to see you all in June! – Sierra Jacobi, ASJA Reporter.
